SGT Alexander Purdue—Hero On Call

I enlisted in the Army National Guard on my 18th birthday in 2002. I was a junior in high school when I decided to join. I was looking for something different and that was going to challenge me.

I completed Basic Combat Training the summer before my senior year and I left for Advanced Individual Training a week after I graduated high school. The next year, after I got home from Advanced Individual Training, I was deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. I was there from ‘04–‘05 and I enjoyed every moment of it. The deployment taught me a lot and I matured a lot from the experience. I’m very lucky to be a part of the Army National Guard and am glad I made the decision to join five years ago.

My future plans are to complete some more military schools and in the end eventually go to OCS.
