CDT Donishia Morrison—Hero On Call

I joined the Army National Guard last year after spending six years in active duty. I transitioned into the Guard because I wanted to spend more time with my infant son and finish my degree.

In active duty, I first attended basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and after went on to advanced individual training (AIT) for my first MOS, which was 89B Ammunition Specialist. I had good times at my first AIT.

From there, I went on to Fort Benning, GA, to participate in the U.S. Army Airborne School—it was awesome! I graduated and went on to my first duty station, Fort Bragg, NC. I loved Fort Bragg, and it was a wonderful experience. I met a lot of people who I still keep in contact with to this day.

I left Fort Bragg and went to Fort Rucker, AL to change my MOS to 15Q, Air Traffic Control. After five months of training, I graduated and went on to Korea. Being in Korea was a nice experience for me. I love to travel and took vacations to China and Thailand.

After active duty, I decided to join the Guard. It was a good decision. The Guard sort of saved me in a way. I'm enrolled in a university, I get to spend time with my son, and I'm slowly working on my interpersonal communication skills.
