SGT Nathan Glassley—Hero On Call
I joined the Army National Guard in 1999 at age 17. I chose the Guard because I wanted to enlist as soon as possible and the Split Training Option allowed me to enlist while I was a junior in high school. I attended Basic Training and Infantry AIT at Fort Benning, GA. Later, I enrolled in ROTC while attending college at Purdue University. While in ROTC I attended Airborne School, NALC (now LDAC/Warrior Forge), and CTLT. After deciding to remain an enlisted soldier, I transferred to the 151st Infantry Detachment (Long Range Surveillance) as an Infantryman and finished up my bachelor's degree at Purdue.
I then attended Parachute Rigger training at Fort Lee, VA and have served as a parachute rigger in the 151st LRS, and now Det. 2, 165th QM Co. The Guard has provided me with great experiences and opportunities that I couldn't get anywhere else including several schools like PLDC, BNCOC, Airborne, Air Assault, and Jumpmaster.
I was hired as an operator for the Hero on Call program in January 2007, and enjoy sharing my experiences with new and potential recruits, as well as helping anyone who has questions about the National Guard.
