LT John Bryant - Hero On Call
I started out in the Army Reserves in 2002, but was unhappy with my MOS and heard about a unit in the National Guard that I was very interested in. After a lot of headaches and time, I was finally able to transfer into the LRS Guard Unit that I wanted to join, and I have enjoyed my time in the National Guard ever since. After graduating from Indiana University with a Bachelors degree in Park and Recreation Management, I was able to go through Infantry Officer Basic Course and Airborne school where I made some lifelong friends and had a great time. After completing my training at Ft Benning GA, I moved to Chicago to play Super League Rugby for the Chicago Lions while transferring into an Anti-Armor company for my NG training drill weekends.
The Guard has been extremely supportive and flexible with all of my civilian life changes by transferring units even between states, while continually giving me the opportunity to take advantage of all that the National Guard has to offer. I have had great experiences learning leadership, teamwork, and structure that you would be hard pressed to find in any other organization.
I look forward to getting more involved in National Guard programs, and adding to my life experience by serving time overseas like so many of my friends already have.
