No Guard is closer to the heart of America than the District of Columbia Army National Guard. The D.C. Guard is the only Guard unit activated by the president, not a governor, for natural and civil emergencies. They've been defending the nation's capital for hundreds of years, originally organized as the First Legion, Columbian Brigade. In WWII, the 121st Engineer Battalion, a part of the 29th Infantry Division, took part in the assault landing on D-Day. They served their capital and country on 9/11, and have been serving since in the Global War on Terror. Start your path to honor as one of the president's own: join the District of Columbia Army National Guard.
